Like so many, Margret Odong has spent her time fearing and running from the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). Her husband was killed and Margret found herself taking care of eight children by herself. She and her husband had three children of her own, and she now takes care of her five grandchildren. Her son (daddy of the five) was taken by the LRA and to this day, no one knows his whereabouts. When the war began to intensify, Margret moved her family to an IDP camp, but when life in the camp was just as hard, they made their final move to Jinja. Shortly after settling, Margret was introduced to SUUBI and quickly got involved. Now that she is a member of SUUBI, she is able to support her family by paying rent and schooling fees. Her daughter, Doreen, is also a member of SUUBI. She is handicap and can only move around with the help of a wheel chair. Before SUUBI, taking care of Doreen was really hard. Margret and Doreen share their SUUBI number since Doreen is unable to work by herself. Margret is thankful for the confidence and hope that comes with working as a “SUUBI Woman.”
