Struggles for Betty Lawino started at a very early age. Because of her circumstances, she was forced to grow up really early. While she was in primary school, she met a boy that would eventually become her husband. A short time after meeting him, Betty found herself pregnant. Because of this, her family rejected her and asked her to leave their home. The father of her child went away for work and while he was gone, a friend of Betty’s took care of her and the new baby. When he finally returned, they were married and moved to Jinja. Betty spent her time as a housewife until she was introduced to SUUBI. Before SUUBI, their family was unable to send their children to school. Now that she is a solid member, Betty’s children are able to go to school. Betty says, “our life has changed in so many ways because of SUUBI.”
