2011 SUUBI® Uganda Awareness Tour
November Stop: Globalization
Necklace: Ruby
Bright and bold, Ruby glimmers – she radiates hope, reminding us of our interconnectedness.

Globalization is making our big world small. As we exchange goods, knowledge, technology, and information, cultures, people, and experiences are united. With travel, technology, and science, we are now closer as a human race than we have ever been. Our integrated lives pose to remind us that we are not alone and our connectedness creates an inevitable tension. We are connected – our choices, our purchases, our decisions, and our votes will push and pull the world around us. Cultures, societies, and people are changing – morphing to the demands and deadlines of a fast-paced world.

Approximately 33" of world-changing cheer from one clasp to the other.
The Scoop on the Flavour of The Month:
Each month a new (and unique) product is introduced in limited supply.

Each SUUBI® product is 100% unique - hand-crafted by the Suubi women in Uganda and made of recycled paper.

Global trading is both a blessing and a curse. Do we live aware that we are connected? In Uganda our Producers and Staff feel the affects.

Globalization truly is a double-edged sword. Nile Perch are being overfished for export to Israel, which leaves the people around Lake Victoria with no opportunity to fish for themselves. The developed world’s dabbling with alternative biofuel has driven up the price of corn (Uganda’s stable food). The Western World’s demand for organic cotton has left communities in Northern Uganda ravished by a malaria epidemic, killing hundreds of thousands.

On the other hand, because of technology, our friends in Uganda are an email, a text, or a Facebook message away. We share pictures, film, music and experiences through our communication. Companies outsourcing production to developing countries provide incomes and a livelihood.

Everything has a cost beyond a monetary measure. There are no right answers, but there are lots of questions. Globalization is inevitable, change is inevitable, but awareness is optional!
