President Kagame

A recent interview by a writer of the Wall Street Journal , Anne Jolis, with Rwanda's President Paul Kagame looked more into the political direction Rwanda is taking. The President has had a controversial past, leading the guerilla army that overthrew the government 16 years ago, after 800,000 Rwandans (Tutsis) were murdered by the countries neighbors, (Hutus). In the midst of his military past, he is doing good things for the government of Rwanda. Quoted from this recent article it is stated " The man who ended Rwanda's genocide doesn't want foreign aid. He wants investment and free trade." President Kagame is trying to cut off dependence on foreign aid and instead "become more self sufficient in food for the first time in [Rwanda's] history". By leaning less on foreign aid Rwanda has now been able to begin exporting some crops of their own and has made the government aware that in trading fairly they are aiding other developing countries. Rwanda's economy is doing a lot better under the financial guidance of President Kagame and his advisors and they expect to continue doing well. President Kagame said " For so long, I've lived injustice, and have had to struggle to fight for my freedom and my people's freedom, I think you tend to have more passion for freedom and rights to exist, for you and everyone...with that kind of life, you don't take things for granted...." The President's passion for making things right in this nation is still up to many critics harsh words, but he says that he will continue to work hard for his people until he is out of office.
