On May 24th 2010, the LRA disarmament billed passed! Obama signed the bill and will be putting it into effect. If you haven't heard of the bill, what it will be doing is providing "humanitarian aid to Uganda and neighboring states, to support regional efforts to end the conflict and to bring LRA leaders to justice." The year of effort to see this bill happen will now allow the US government to intervene on the acts of the Lord's Resistance Army's Leader Joseph Kony and the child soldiers that he has made out of thousands of innocent children. Obama agreed that it was time to stop watching innocent people be brutalized, raped, killed and brainwashed and instead, take action! Month's prior to this day thousands of people gathered from all over the nation to see this bill pass and to show support. Thousands lifted their peace signs in the air on the lawn in Washington D.C. to show they too were dedicated to ending the war that has ravaged much of eastern Africa. At this gathering of 250,000 people a Citizens arrest warrant for Joseph Kony was signed by each person!

In response to the overwhelming support by American citizens Obama was quoted saying: "You have made the plight of the children visible to us all. Your action represents the very best of American leadership around the world, and we are committed to working with you in pursuit of the future of peace and dignity that the people of who have suffered at the hands of the LRA deserve." Through the beginning to the end of the bill people have come to realize the weight of the situation in Uganda and it's neighboring countries and have been moved into action! In earlier statements by Obama he said: "We mourn those killed. We pray for those abducted to be freed, and for those wounded to heal. We call on the ranks of the LRA to disarm and surrender. We believe that the leadership of the LRA should be brought to justice." We should all look forward to the day when news about the killings by the LRA has ceased and this multiple decade war is brought to a complete close.
