In continuing with the re-cap of Early May's training with Solar Cookers International, part three is full of fun photos of all that the Suubi Ladies were up to over the span of Tuesday through Thursday.

Tuesday was even wetter. We brought the CookIts just in case and demonstrated the efficient charcoal stoves and fireless baskets to the next group. They were equally impressed. John and Julius thoroughly explained how the fireless basket work and the group brainstormed about local materials the Suubi ladies could use to make their own baskets.

We were so happy when the sun came out on Wednesday. We arrived in Danida early and fired up the parabolic cooker and 8 CookIts with water for pasteurization and tea, posho, rice, meat, greens, and even cake. While the food was cooking, John and Julius discussed different types of fuel with the group and how economizing fuel helps our health, our wallet, and our environment. After lunch, the ladies divided into four groups to make their own CookIt reflectors from start to finish.

Thursday was a mixed bag at Magwa. Intermittent sun and clouds prevented the tailors from seeing the full range of the CookIt, but demonstrations with the parabolic cooker and efficient charcoal stove worked well. Some of the tailors stayed late into the day chatting with John and Julius – maybe about solar cooking, maybe about life in general – I don’t speak their language.

Stay tuned for the fourth and final part of the Solar Cookers Training!
