We like who we get to work with here at LGH, so we put our staff member, Mary Kate, on a little reporter project interviewing one of our newest additions to the team. Megan Glenn has been working with us since October 2010, starting with the fall internship. Megan is 23 years old and is from Springfield, MO. She studied at Missouri State University and graduated with a degree in Psychology with a minor in art with the emphasis in photography. We think Megan is super cool and we think you will agree!

MK: Why were you drawn to LGH back in October when you started your internship?
MG: Well, I’ve wanted to work for a not-for-profit for a long time and when I stumbled upon LGH, I just was really inspired about the fact they are not looking at Africa with the idea of “oh, pity them”. I liked the fact that they were helping them help themselves. They weren’t just giving them handouts…and the outlet they did it was fashion. I emailed Dave and when I got the email back from Morgan, I just knew this is where I needed to go; definitely a God thing. There is no other way of saying it, I can’t explain it, there is just something that came over me and I knew this is somewhere I wanted to go. Morgan hadn’t even offered me an internship, yet I just knew.

MK: What is your overall role with in LGH?
MG: Mainly, I do photography; so photo shoots, product photos and editing. The in-house craftster, or well we have a few! Visual design. I do whatever Dave will let me do!

MK: What got you started in Photography?
MG: I’ve been interested in photography since I was a kid. My Mom started pursuing photography about 6 years ago. She has her own photography side business, so we would take photos together. I enjoy most art, right, I like to doing a lot of different kind of art but for me photography was…I like capturing moments of every day life, which is what art is anyway. But instead of just drawing it, I feel like it just creates it’s self. Life kinda molds the art of photography.
In college, I started out as journalism major and I wanted to travel and do photography. And then, I changed my major, but I loved photography so I kept it as my minor. I actually studied doing dark room fine art photography. I like seeing the whole process; you go from capturing the image to developing it.

MK: How has it been living in Grand Junction compared to Springfield?
MG: Umm, it’s…smaller. The culture is just different. It’s pretty laid back in Springfield, but it’s really relaxed here. The lifestyle really revolves around the outdoors here, being outside. It’s about really being close with friends and hanging out. Though you don’t have the city life things, you still go hiking and spend time with friends.

MK: Is there something you discovered that you like since being here?
MG: Sailing. Believe it or not; you don’t really think about that in Colorado.

MK: Since we live in a place with lots of Breweries and Wineries, what’s your favorite?
MG: The dirty-hippie. It’s from a local brewery in Palisade; it’s a wheat beer. I do enjoy that!

MK: What are you most excited about for this summer as far as working with LGH?
MG: We’re going to San Diego for the Switchfoot Bro-Am. I’m excited for festivals and markets and that we are doing look books. I love that we are doing those now; it gives me a more defined role. I’m excited to start shooting more.

MK: If you would put on one outfit that would describe your style, what would it be?
MG: It’s hard to say because I am a person that just depending on how I feel that day, what I want to be…if I want to be a rocker, I’ll put on my black combat boots but if I want to be a bit more feminine; vintage. But, for the summer, cute little sun dresses and sandals.

MK: Just for fun, what summer food or meal are you most looking forward to?
MG: I’m really enjoying raspberries right now. My sister and I were eating a lot over the weekend when I was in Denver. Bar-b-q’s are always good! So, BBQ for sure!
