A BodaBoda

Boda Boda: moped taxis that cruise through the crazy traffic of Kampala, Uganda. While Matatus, a.k.a. taxis, exist in the city, boda bodas are much faster. Many businessmen, families, and everyday locals use this form of transportation to get from place to place through out the city.

With traffic growing beyond what the roads were made to handle, boda bodas are helping to ease the congestion. Though some confess it is not the safest always, it is still the fastest and the cheapest. On average a boda boda driver will charge one
dollar per trip. In fact, many of Light Gives Heat volunteers and staff use the boda boda way of transport almost daily. Although Jinja is one and a half hours away from Kampala and the traffic is not near as heavy, it remains still as a cheap and practical way to get around.

In addition to the convenience the boda bodas offer to local commuters, men in Uganda are able to secure their futures with this occupation. As demand grows, more will be able to employ themselves. This is both good for Kampala people and their traffic!
