"Just back from what was truly an amazing weekend in Jinja and the highlight of my entire month here in Uganda. Words cannot begin to describe what a success the bike day was on Saturday. All of our hopes and dreams for the day were confirmed, with over 50 women attending; laughing, riding bikes, crashing, laughing, and having a wonderful afternoon. By the end of the day our sign up sheet listed 80 names, and that didn't include the 10 tailors that may also be interested. I was amazed at how excited they were to jump up on the bikes, even if they had never ridden before. There were 60 year-olds riding in traditional dress...on the men's frame that was entirely too big! They were fearless, crashing at the bottom of a little hill when they couldn't figure out how to use the coaster brakes. We rode around on a grassy field so everyone was just fine even if they took a tumble. The ladies were teaching each other how to ride, holding the bike and pushing the beginners when they needed help. I madly ran around taking as many pictures as I possibly could. It was truly amazing and I felt so happy and so blessed, and am so thankful for your dreams and motivations making this project a reality. It is my dream and I will do everything I possibly can to get back to Jinja to experience the joy and happiness when we get these women their bikes!!"
