Fashion and Africa do indeed go together, despite past belief. In fact, African nations are doing more than just providing their people with good fashion, they are also inspiring looks that can be found in the store right down the street. If you are reading this right now, then you've been on the LGH website and you know that all LGH products are handmade by women and men in Uganda. There are many more women and men just like the artisans we get to work with that are pushing the fashion industry forward in Africa. Currently, if you were to walk into Urban Outfitters or Free People, you would find some ever so popular head wraps. You may have seen them already and not realized that head-wraps have been a look of the overall African culture for much longer than the local mall has carried them. Pictured above you'll see two hair scarves/turbans ranging in price from $29 to $228, then, you'll see a photo of one of the Suubi women fashioning her hair with a very similar head wrap.

The Fashion industry only continues to grow in Africa. Hautefashionafrica.com provides readers with all the latest African designers, trends, blog articles and much more. One article dating back to June 2009 refers to the work of Sylvia Owori, Ugandan designer, at the Arise Africa Fashion Week 2009. Sylvia (pictured above) designed an all organic collection that she refered to as ‘fashion with a purpose’! As stated on the Sylvia Owori website, "The collection represents Uganda and the rich cotton that is grown from their fertile soils. It depicts fashion with an aspect of environmental friendliness exuding from Uganda. Sylvia Owori, therefore contributing to the development of the society. The other aspect to this collection is the ‘paper beads’. These beads are made from colored paper by the rural women in Uganda. This empowers their lives, as employment is created and poverty eradicated in Uganda."

LGH couldn't agree more with the heart behind the Organic collection. That same belief is a huge part of why Suubi was created in the first place; to fuse fashion with hope and empower the women of Uganda to provide for themselves and their families while using their creativity, because they are indeed very creative!
