Earlier this week we learned that LGH had been awarded a $10,000 grant from ERM Foundation-North America to use for multiple projects of Sustainable Resource Management in Uganda. The purpose of the grant is to provide resources and education in order to implement the following sustainable and ecological projects:

*Container Gardening with Earthtainers
*Mushroom Growing
*Renewable Livestock
*Home Composting
*Pyrolysing Charcoal Stoves
*Rainwater Harvesting

This grant will create opportunity to generate income through expansion into the local economy, as well as, act as a catalyst for resource-based awareness in communities while empowering the participants as both leaders and educators.

For example, rainwater collected from rooftops can be stored for home use or filtered and pasteurized for drinking and cooking. Waste management techniques like composting and pyrolysis allow for access to vitamins and minerals trapped in waste materials. In addition, money that would be spent on food or renting garden plots for one season can instead be used to build container gardens and other growing systems that yield food year-round.

We could not be more grateful for the funds that will allow us to continue to offer support to the men and women that have offered us so much.
